FAQ
How do I take care of my tattoo?
I keep my aftercare very straightforward. The things to keep in mind to insure a good heal out are:
-
During the first few days your tattoo will be pushing plasma, pigment, etc out, which when it reacts with oxygen, forming a scab. Make sure to wash your tattoo 1-3 times a day with unscented soap for the first few days, less for less skin trauma. Use just your hand, not anything abrasive.
-
Pat it dry with a clean paper towel or let it air dry. Please wear loose fitting clothes while it heals out. Do not rewrap your tattoo, do not pick or scratch your tattoo.
-
After 5-7 days, you may apply a light amount of unscented lotion such as Aveeno, Cerave, or lubriderm after washing your tattoo.
-
If you choose to use other lotions, please follow the guidelines above and massage it into the skin to let the tattoo breathe.
-
Keep your tattoo out of the sun and avoid sunscreen during the time it is healing.
-
Remember, less is more. Your body knows what to do naturally. As long as you’re keeping it clean with minimal intervention, you should have no issues.
You are free to use any products you wish after your tattoo is fully healed, which may take up to a month. To insure its longevity over the course of its life, please avoid heavy sun exposure. Sunscreen only helps prevent the sun from damaging your skin, but doesn't protect the lightfastness of pigment.
How do I prepare for my tattoo session?
Believe it or not, there's a lot you can do to prepare your skin before the appointment.
-
A couple weeks prior to your appointment, you can apply lotions such as Lubriderm, Aveeno, or even some body butters to the area that will be tattooed.
-
It helps by adding in more moisture into the skin, making it more supple and wiling to accept pigment more easily.
a day or so prior to your appointment, after the above regime, you can exfoliate your skin to remove any dead skin cells from the top layer.
Its not imperative to do the above, but it does help the process go more smoothly on the day of the appointment.
Please be sure to eat a hardy meal beforehand, and bring water and snacks as well. During the process of getting a tattoo, your body is trying to bring endorphins to the affected area and uses a lot of energy during the process.
